The change in Alola's climate has made it difficult for the ink on Smeargle's tail to paint properly. Deprived of its signature ability to Sketch, the Smeargle of this region have fallen into a depression that, while manageable, have made them more morose in nature. To make up for their inability to paint, they learned to use spray cans left behind by humans in order to make their mark on society.
