Y'know, I based Ash's design of a concept I had in my head for awhile now.
A concept of a just world, in which after getting his head handed to him over BS last minute Diabolus ex Machinas in tournaments for the last time, Ash finally just said "screw this", went back to Oak's lab, got Charizard, Sceptile, Kingler, Muk, and Swellow, and spent the next x amount of years tracking down everyone that screwed him over and take glorious revengeance (poor Tobias was first...)
After a few years of this, Iris became Champion of Unova, and because of that, coinicdentally wound up next on Ash's takedown list. Dragonite, Aggron and Haxorus simultaneously getting the tar kicked out of them by Mega Charizard X promptly proved to Iris how much less of a kid and how much more of a badass Ash had become, and the two eventually hooked up.
Couple years after that, they have a few kids (Ashton, Dragen, and Lily, the one you see in this pic), who all set off on journeys of their own, only they have the advantage of getting Charmeleon, Fraxure, and Dragonair, respectively, for starters...
At least, that's how I imagine it going years in the future. Right now, it'll be a miracle if Ash and crew gets to Shalour City by the end of 2014...

maybe iris's Excadrill could be one of Lily's pokemon( i think that excadrills have super long life span like some could be over 1000 and i see Iris' is in his 27-30 and excadrills age slowly)
