I want to think that the special Mistletoe Comfey is one that only shows up in the colder areas of Alola where normal flowers don't grow as easily, while the Alolan Ninetales belongs to one of the two girls (reflecting the fact that I'm training an Alolan Vulpix of my own I got from Wonder Trade)...

Just as much as it is about getting stuff, Christmas is a time to be with your loved ones and cherish them, no matter what kind of gift they give you, and I'd say Serena's well aware of that.
Of course, the fact that Shauna's idea of a gift was to dress up in a revealing ribbon-style outfit and have a Comfey hang mistletoe over her head for her certainly doesn't hurt!
